A UK-based Startup Has Developed a Cat Food Made with Lab-Grown Chicken

Meatly, a UK-based company has launched the world’s first canned cat food produced from lab-grown chicken. This news is reported by daily.afisha.ru, citing the Daily Mail as its source.

Using an innovative method, Meatly grew the meat from chicken cells in special containers. They parallel the production of making yogurt or beer, underscore the purity of their method and don’t include any harmful additives.

The company stated, “Our meat is free from any unwanted chemicals, bacteria, or other contaminants. It is simply pure chicken. It is a healthy and nutritious source of protein and nutrients”.

Meatly’s new food is waiting for regulatory approval before being sold in Pets at Home stores, where it is expected to be priced at 1 pound sterling per can.

In 2023, the USDA granted approval for the meat grown in a laboratory from chicken cells for the first time.

The approval process lasted seven months and involved rigorous testing to make sure that this product was safe for humans. Following thorough inspections by all the US federal agencies, the product passed.
